Bright Red Cakes!

Random trips don’t usually end up leading to great new finds however, a late night drive around Brooklyn led us to get some of the most wonderful and moist cake I have ever had.  Cake Man Raven Confectionery is a shop that has been opened since 2000 and is basically known for one thing and one thing alone; red velvet cake. I’ve heard a great deal about his red velvet cake, so I already had high expectations  about this cake. I feel that if you’re going to have a bakery shop, it should have more than just one type of cake, but apparently if you do one thing very well, it becomes a hit. After driving around town,  we (Nan-King & I) finally decided to find the shop and head over to it. Since we were already near Prospect Park, I looked up the shop on Google maps and found it was in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn, 2 minute drive from where we were.  After finding parking, we walked to the shop. The shop had a pleasant store front with nice little bench and place to sit down and have their goodies. The official name is “Cake man Raven’s Sweet Confectionery” and sweet it is.

If you go to their website or look at the menu, it seems as though this place has a wide variety of cakes and pastries. Let me tell you one simple thing, that is not how it is at all. The only thing they have to offer is the southern style red velvet cake. There is a small place to sit upstairs, but this is more of a “grab and go” type of place. The cakes are priced at $6 a slice, which at the time I thought was a little steep. The portions are pretty big so that helped ease myself into buying it. However, after the first bite, I realized it was worth each and every penny. I can honestly say, I have never had a cake that was as moist and flavorful as this in my life. The cake is sweet and creamy but in no way overpowering or sugary. The frosting is the most flavorful part, it’s sweet and creamy but not sugary at all. Go try their cake, believe me, it’s worth it!

  I think they charge to much for the cake. The people were rude when I went there!
  And lastly, its always busy and unless your a celebrity you can never get a full cake!

  I’m not even a fan of velvet cake but they make it right. The cakes are so moist and the icing is perfect.
